Crochet Hooks
If you've never used a wooden crochet hook you owe it to yourself try one. You may not want to use a metal hook ever again!
The main difference between metal and wooden hooks is that there is some stiction. The yarn won't slip from the hook until you're ready, but it doesn't exactly stick to the hook. It just works better and you have much more control.
You may have noticed I make the actual hook portion a bit different than some other turners.
The hook is not reduced. There is no "waist" at the throat of the hook.
The yarn flows easily and does not "catch" on the hook portion accidently.
You will appreciate the increase in speed this gives.
I can make most sizes but I would prefer you order in metric as it makes for fewer surprises.
I don't usually make anything smaller than a metric 3. Your gauge size should determine the size you order.
Not all wood species are suitable for every size hook.
I can insert Japanese style shafts into a wood handle. This makes it possible to use the Japanese sizes :)
Actually it just adds a better handle and results in less fatigue, which allows you to crochet longer or more easliy.
The length varies between six and eight inches. The maximum diameter of the decorated portion is never larger than a half inch.
(If you need a truly large handled hook, I can accommodate you, so please ask.)
The length of the gauged section is generally not more than two or three inches, but this will vary.
If you need a specific length of gauged section please ask.
There is no taper from the gauged section to the handle. The gauged section is clearly delineated.
I am able to turn hooks from your special piece of wood as well.
