Game Calls

All game calls use the same style reeds but you have a choice of double or single. It really comes down to personal preference because neither one is better than the other.

After a bit of practice no one (especially the ducks) will be able to tell which style of reed you use. If you are really good at calling 'em in, people will want a call exactly like yours.

The reeds I use for my calls all use a metal backing. Remember, the sound is produced by the air vibrating from the reed as it moves back and forth, not from beating against the backing or the bore of the call. The backing and bore interrupt the vibration (by stopping the reed) which makes the sound raspy.

It is better for you to adapt to the way the call blows than to try and tune the call to the way you blow. If you have a lot of practice tuning call reeds then you might be successful. If you don’t have much experience you are more likely to ruin the call.

The fact that I am not a champion caller should not stop you from ordering calls from me. Mario Andretti’s crew chief never won any races, but he knew all there was to know about the cars.
