Form and function... Beauty and utility...
There's something about wood. Something that makes it attractive to us.
I blend that attractiveness with function and utility.
I love the sight of the shavings flying off the log as my gouge peels away the excess.
I love the sound the gouge makes during a long cut.
I love the swish of the wood as it streams past my elbow.
I love the subtle curve revealed by ever finer cuts.
Despite my best intentions, sometimes a piece becomes art for it's own sake.
It's only function - to soothe my spirit.
