What do I do?
It's simple really...
I make round things out of flat, or otherwise odd shaped things. Ideally these things would then not only be round but pleasing to the eye.
How do I do it?
I start with pieces of wood which I rescue from the fire and/or the landfill. I cut them into a managable size using various saws (a chainsaw at first, because I'm not as young as I used to be, then a band-saw) and finally mount them to the lathe. Once they're spinning at an appropriate speed, I attack them (rather gently) with various sharp tools (gouges and skews usually, sometimes a scraper) until they are pleasing to my eye. I then hinge all my self esteem on your reaction. Ha-ha, I'm only kidding. But I do hope you enjoy looking at what I do as much as I enjoy doing it.
If you like what you see, maybe you'd like to purchase something.
Why do I do it?
I want to blend form and function. I want to combine beauty and utility.
